On Wednesday evening, the Golden State Warriors stumbled out of the gates with an ugly loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on the road on opening night. The Warriors managed to stick around in the first half of this one, but ultimately fell apart in the third quarter and ended up losing by a final score of 127-105.

Here are two overreactions from the loss.

The Warriors will be bad this season

This isn't exactly a hot take, considering that few pundits have the Warriors making the playoffs this year. However, it was truly jarring to see just how little help Stephen Curry had on Wednesday, with the franchise icon scoring 16 points in the first quarter alone but not getting much support from anywhere else.

Of course, Brandin Podziemski being out didn't help, and he should be back sooner rather than later. The team was also without big man Kristaps Porzingis, but it's not exactly reasonable to project him being out on the floor consistently, considering his injury history and the fact that Golden State is now reportedly looking to trade him.

Jimmy Butler will theoretically come back at some point this season, but the Warriors' campaign could be fully behind the eight-ball by the time that happens.

Overall, there wasn't much to be encouraged about in Wednesday's loss.

Yaxel Lendeborg is the real deal

One of the few sources of energy for Golden State in this one was rookie Yaxel Lendeborg, who scored 12 points in the loss and also provided some intensity on the defensive end of the floor.

Lendeborg found himself in an ongoing trash-talk feud with Lakers star Luka Doncic, a battle that Doncic won when he sent a half-court shot through the net just before the end of the second quarter. However, it certainly says something about the rookie that he was willing to talk smack to one of the game's greatest players in his first-ever NBA contest, and he largely performed well, on offense, at least, in his own right.

That kind of energy might be just what Golden State needs to keep their morale amid what could be an ugly season.
