Kyler Murray remains in concussion protocol after exiting Minnesota's 39-22 win over the Green Bay Packers, creating uncertainty at quarterback ahead of Sunday's NFC North matchup against the Chicago Bears.

According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, Murray remains the likely starter if he's cleared in time. If he isn't, however, Carson Wentz appears positioned to get the call over McCarthy.

“I could see a scenario in which Wentz starts this week with McCarthy as the backup, assuming Murray can't go,” Graziano wrote.

That would move McCarthy from QB3 to QB2, but it would also be another indication that Minnesota isn't ready to hand its former first-round pick the offense.

The Vikings believe Wentz's veteran experience makes him better equipped to handle a week in which the starting quarterback situation remains unsettled. Wentz certainly helped his case Sunday.

After Murray exited in the first quarter, Wentz completed 12-of-19 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns. Minnesota eventually erased a 22-10 deficit by scoring 29 unanswered points to stun Green Bay.

McCarthy spent training camp competing with Murray for the starting job, while Wentz ultimately emerged as Minnesota's primary backup entering the season.

Now, the veteran could get his first start of the season before McCarthy does. Wentz did a great job last season, giving them a chance to get close to the playoff picture. Minnesota barely missed out, but the Carson Wentz experience paid off.

Everything still depends on Murray's progression through concussion protocol. But if he isn't cleared, the Vikings appear prepared to trust Wentz against Chicago while giving McCarthy another opportunity to move one step closer to seeing the field.
