The Minnesota Vikings plan to activate running back Jordan Mason from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's Week 7 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, provided everything goes well Saturday.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Saturday via X, formerly known as Twitter, that Minnesota expects to bring Mason back after a four-game absence.
“Vikings plan to activate RB Jordan Mason (IR, thumb) if all goes well today, per sources. Gives Minnesota a key RB alongside Aaron Jones Sr.”
Mason has not played since Minnesota's 39-22 season-opening victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 13. The 27-year-old rushed 15 times for a team-high 59 yards and a touchdown, including a 28-yard run.
Mason suffered a fractured thumb during the victory and underwent surgery before the Vikings placed him on injured reserve Sept. 16. Coach Kevin O'Connell initially said he did not expect Mason's absence to extend much beyond the minimum four-game IR requirement.
Minnesota designated Mason to return Monday, opening his 21-day practice window. He then practiced fully Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before receiving a questionable designation for Sunday's game.

Mason's absence has left Jones with a heavier workload. The veteran has rushed for 410 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 19.4 carries per game through Minnesota's first five contests.
The undefeated Vikings will attempt to improve to 6-0 when they host the Colts on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
