On Sunday afternoon, the Minnesota Vikings hit the field for their third game of the season, on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Vikings entered this game at 2-0, having defeated the NFC North rival Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears to open up the season.
In the first quarter on Sunday, the Vikings suffered an injury scare when wide receiver Justin Jefferson went down holding his ankle.
“Justin Jefferson is questionable to return because of an ankle injury, per the team,” reported NFL insider Kevin Seifert of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.
Seifert later reported that “Justin Jefferson is out of the blue tent and on the sideline but not in the huddle to start this drive.”
It's certainly not ideal news for a Vikings team that just saw Kyler Murray return to the quarterback position on Sunday after missing last week's game and most of Week 1 vs the Packers due to a concussion.
The Vikings have risen to their current 2-0 record thanks in large part to their defense, coordinated by Brian Flores, which has shut down the Packers and the Bears in consecutive weeks to open up the season.
A win on Sunday against a desperate Tampa Bay team that has stumbled out of the gate to an 0-2 record would only further legitimize the Vikings' claim as a threat in the NFC this year.
The team will certainly hope for good news on Jefferson moving forward.
Minnesota will next hit the field next Sunday vs the Miami Dolphins.
