Conor McGregor made his five-year-long UFC return earlier this year against Max Holloway. However, fighting in the main event of UFC 329, McGregor sustained an ACL injury, which ruled him out of the fight and put him on the shelf.
Now having undergone surgery and currently recovering, McGregor hopes to have his last fight next year, in 2027, before moving on to other ventures. McGregor fought Holloway in the welterweight division, which marked his debut in it. While many viewed that as an advantage for ‘The Notorious One,” UFC veteran José Aldo wants McGregor to drop his weight class. (via BJPenn)
“Yeah, I think first he needs to go through some dietary re-education to see if he can get back down and be lighter again,” Aldo said while speaking to MMAFighting. “I think, in my opinion, he has the frame for 155, so it would be good.

To me, the division has kind of stalled there. Ilia [Topuria] moved up and lost to [Justin] Gaethje, so it’s a bit of a mess there, and anyone can come in and snatch the title.”
Dropping from welterweight would mean moving back to lightweight. However, it is in lightweight where McGregor has encountered the most challenges. Since 2018, he was beaten by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 and endured two losses against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 and UFC 264. His overall record at 155lbs currently stands at 1-5.
As of now, there are no confirmed updates regarding McGregor's UFC comeback fight and opponent. Although several potential fights have been teased, nothing has yet been finalized. Currently recovering, McGregor was recently spotted singing and partying with Ryan Garcia.
