The culture shift in Westwood is continuing for UCLA football under Bob Chesney. The Bruins even overcame their latest scare involving quarterback Ty Dieffenbach to beat Michigan State 28-10.

But this undefeated run hit unprecedented heights not seen in over 20 years.

The Bruins are now 7-0 overall, which hasn't happened since the 2005 season. That Bruins team was led by Karl Dorrell, who produced a 10-2 campaign that season.

However, UCLA is thinking the larger picture here; from the Big Ten title to a College Football Playoff appearance. Dieffenbach, who took over for Nico Iamaleava after enduring a season-ending injury against Oregon, stayed in and hit 198 passing yards. He found Brian Rowe Jr. for the lone touchdown pass of the game inside the Rose Bowl.

Yet Chesney rode the power of UCLA's ground game. Anthony Woods piled 112 yards on 14 carries and scored once. James Madison transfer Wayne Knight led the way with 15 carries for 56 yards and also crossed the end zone. Former Cal Golden Bears RB Jaivian Thomas, brought over by former head coach DeShaun Foster, scored as well and finished with 41 yards on 10 carries.

UCLA punished the Spartans with 245 rushing yards on the afternoon. Chesney, again, is leaning into pounding the rock to wear down opponents during this Bruins renaissance.

This 18-point romp keeps UCLA as the Big Ten's only unbeaten left. Which additionally strengthens its chances of clinching a spot in the conference title game, or claiming one of the 12-team slots in the postseason. UCLA also only faces one ranked foe left in 2026: The No. 16 USC Trojans at Pasadena on Nov. 28.
