A scary injury to wide receiver Jayden Reed dampened the Green Bay Packers' 20-17 win over the New York Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
The former Michigan State Spartans wideout was carted off the field in the first half of the game after absorbing a hit to the head and neck area. He was stretchered off the field and was ruled out for the rest of the contest. However, he showed movement in his extremities, which was a great sign, relatively speaking.
It remains to be seen when Reed can return to action. Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur said on Tuesday, “It’s way too early for that right now,” with regard to the wide receiver's timeline (h/t Rob Demovsky of ESPN).
“He’s got a lot going on,” added LaFleur, who at least noted that Reed did indeed suffer a neck injury.
Reed, who signed a three-year, $50.25 million contract extension with the Packers in April, only had four receiving yards on a catch and a target before leaving the meeting with the Jets. Through two games in 2026, he has 24 receiving yards on four receptions and eight targets.
The 26-year-old Reed is unfortunately dealing with an unwanted scenario reminiscent of what he went through in 2025. Last season, he suffered an injury in a Week 2 game against the Washington Commanders and missed several games, but he returned in Week 13 and finished the campaign.
For now, Reed can be expected to miss Green Bay's Week 3 showdown against the Atlanta Falcons at Lambeau Field, with the game scheduled for Thursday.
