Jerry Jeudy has ostensibly been passed on Cleveland’s depth chart by the team’s rookie receivers, KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston.
But in the Browns’ last two wins, Jeudy has been the one to come up with significant late-game receptions to put the club in a position to win.
On Sunday, it was a 33-yard catch-and-run on third-and-5 to set up Andre Szmyt for a game-winning field goal.
Jeudy finished the game with a team-leading 69 yards on four catches.
“I mean, we’re better with Jerry than we are without Jerry,” head coach Todd Monken said in his Monday news conference, via transcript from the team. “And I think we’re doing a better job of getting him involved and trying to find the places where we can use Jerry. And it hasn’t been easy, as I said before.
“But he’s handled it well the last few weeks, and you can see it with the confidence playing, the juice he has. And that’s the biggest thing, from practice to the games, carrying that over.”
Jeudy did not have a reception in Cleveland’s Week 2 and Week 3 victories, getting just one target over that span. But over the last three games, he’s caught 10 passes for 124 yards.
He’s now No. 4 on the club with a total of 150 receiving yards this season, behind Boston, Concepcion, and tight end Harold Fannin.
