The Tennessee Titans drafted Cam Ward first overall in 2025. Obviously, the expectation was that Ward would become a superstar right away and lead his team out of the misery of losing. That hasn't happened. Ward underwhelmed as a rookie and has struggled in a big way in year two. His team is one of three without a win yet this season.
Despite that, Robert Saleh has no intentions of benching the QB, as there is still hope that he will reach his potential and prove himself as the franchise player. Saleh confirmed as much directly after the Titans' 26-3 loss to the Houston Texans, and he restated his commitment to the Miami product the day after game day. Furthermore, Saleh confirmed that keeping Ward in at QB is an overall coaching staff decision; not just one he made.
“When you make wholesale changes, I always feel like you're showing a sign of panic,” Saleh said. “This is not the time. We're in game five of year one. It hasn't been good; we're 0-5… Right now, in this part of where we are at, it is all about getting better; it is all about establishing a foundation.”

Ward was drafted first overall for a reason. While he has struggled through 22 starts, his career is still young, and he still has plenty of time to get better. Giving up on him now just wouldn't make any sense. Ward's backup is Mitchell Trubisky, a fellow former high draft pick who was given the bust label. Trubisky has made a solid career for himself as a backup, but he is unlikely to turn around a Titans season that is already starting to look lost.
