Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards expressed mixed emotions about the team's offseason changes during Monday's Media Day, and his comments about Naz Reid could be interpreted as a subtle shot at former teammate Julius Randle.
Minnesota underwent significant changes following the 2025-26 season, parting ways with both Reid and Randle as the organization reshaped the roster around
Edwards. While discussing the moves, Edwards made it clear he will miss Reid while also expressing excitement about the Timberwolves' revamped locker room.
“I'm gonna miss Naz for sure, that's my brother, but I'm super happy about the changes in the locker room.”
The timing of Edwards' comment could raise eyebrows considering Randle's departure. Minnesota moved Randle as part of a three-team trade with the Brooklyn Nets and Chicago Bulls. Randle and the Timberwolves' No. 28 pick went to Brooklyn, while center Nic Claxton landed with Chicago. Minnesota received the No. 33 pick as part of the deal.

Anthony Edwards reacts to Naz Reid, Julius Randle departures
Reid's departure came through another major transaction. Minnesota sent Reid to the Charlotte Hornets as the centerpiece of the package that brought star guard LaMelo Ball to the Timberwolves. Charlotte also received an unprotected 2033 first-round pick, three pick swaps and three second-round picks in the blockbuster deal.
The move separated Edwards from Reid, one of his closest longtime teammates, but gave Minnesota another dynamic offensive weapon alongside Edwards.
Edwards did not directly criticize Randle or identify any former teammate when discussing his happiness with the locker-room changes. As a result, interpreting the remark as a shot at Randle remains speculative.
Still, his distinction between specifically saying he will miss Reid and immediately expressing enthusiasm about the broader changes is notable after an offseason in which both forwards departed.
With Ball now joining Edwards as part of a retooled core, Minnesota enters the 2026-27 season hoping its aggressive offseason moves can push the franchise closer to an NBA championship.
