The Seattle Mariners had expectations of making a run to the playoffs and potentially a run at the World Series in 2026. The Mariners have been one of the most disappointing teams this year, as the team has slowly fallen out of contention.

Now, an embarrassing stat is showing why the Mariners have fallen out of playoff contention, per Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

“The Mariners were last above .500 on July 20, at 51-50. They are 19-32 since. During that time, Seattle has allowed the most runs of any AL team with the lone exception of the A's, who play in an extreme hitter's park,” Morosi posted on X, formerly Twitter.

On July 20th, the Mariners were 51-50 and had a half-game lead in the AL West over the Texas Rangers. The next day, the Mariners lost to the Cincinnati Reds and dropped out of first place in the division. It would be the first of four straight losses, and the skid followed them into August overall. They would lose 15 of their next 20 games. At that point, they had dropped 5.5 games behind the Houston Astros in the division, and four games behind the Rangers for the final wild card spot in the American League.

The Mariners are now 70-82 on the season, which places them 6.5 games behind the Astros in the AL West. They are also seven games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the final wildcard spot in the American League. The team's elimination number is just seven games. The Mariners look to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night.
