The Washington Commanders have struggled during the first half of the 2026 season. Washington is 1-4-1 after losing to San Francisco on Monday Night Football last week. To make matters worse, Jayden Daniels has dealt with injuries once again. Fortunately, the young quarterback is still giving fans some signs for optimism.
John Todd from NFL Media shared an interesting stat related to Daniels on Friday. It puts Daniels in some elite company, but with one huge caveat.
Daniels is the eighth player in NFL history to have five or more passing touchdowns, two or more rushing touchdowns, and no interceptions in his first four games of a season. He joins former players like Hall of Famer Drew Brees, Daunte Culpepper, Russell Wilson, and Milt Plum on that list. Daniels also joins current players Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, and Brock Purdy.
However, Daniels is the only one of those quarterbacks to not have a winning record despite his positive stats. In fact, the Commanders have an 0-3-1 record during that span. Every other quarterback was either 4-0 or 3-1 during their hot streak.
When looking further into Daniels' stats, it is clear that he's playing at an efficient level. That said, his overall production shows that he is playing quite conservatively.
Case in point, Jayden only has 759 passing yards with five touchdowns in four games. That averages out to just 190 passing yards and just over one touchdown per game. In fairness, Daniels also contributed 213 rushing yards with two touchdowns on the ground. But that does not make up for his lack of productivity as a passer.
Article Continues BelowWashington's offensive line has been a problem, which limits how effective Daniels can truly be. The Commanders also have a subpar group of skill position players, so it is hard to ask Daniels to put up truly elite numbers.
Hopefully Washington can turn things around now that Daniels is back to full health.
Next up for the Commanders is a Week 8 home game against the Eagles.
