Speaking on ESPN, Will Compton would talk about how this game supersedes any “rivalry-related” contest between two teams, as there is legitimate bad blood between the programs, mostly surrounding Kiffin. He calls what Kiffin did in leaving Ole Miss before the College Football Playoff last season an “absolute screw job” and explained how the controversial head coach “flipped off” the Rebels on the way to LSU.

“Yes, absolutely,” Compton said when asked if there's going to be a toxic environment. “Like, to me, you talk about rivalry week, rivalry games. This goes beyond anything rivalry-related. This game is so personal for both fan bases. Like, if you guys remember, I know everybody does, because this happened 10 months ago. But Lane Kiffin, absolute screw job on Ole Miss. You leave the program, historic year. You leave the program two days after a college football playoff berth.”

“Not only that, when they say you can't coach, he tries to actively recruit the staff and recruits to pull them away,” Compton continued. “Not only did he take a knife and put it in their back, he flipped all the Ole Miss off on the way out, and now you're walking into that building in purple. This is going to be fireworks on Saturday night.”
