As New York Giants star Jaxson Dart underwent an MRI on Tuesday, it revealed that the knee injury suffered during Monday night's 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams is worse than it initially appeared to be. With Dart likely to miss significant time for the Giants, this NFL insider points out a New York streak by former quarterback Eli Manning that will remain intact until next season.
League insider Adam Schefter at ESPN reported Tuesday that with Dart's injury being “worse than initially thought,” there is a possibility that the 23-year-old could undergo “season-ending knee surgery.” Meaning, it will be another season that New York hasn't had a quarterback start every game since Manning did so in 2018.
“Breaking: Further testing today revealed Giants QB Jaxson Dart’s knee injury is worse than initially thought, and the team and Dart now are facing the possibility of season-ending knee surgery, sources tell ESPN,” Schefter wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“The Giants have not had a QB start every game in a season since Eli Manning in 2018,” Schefter continued. “That streak will continue with Jaxson Dart set to miss time, potentially the season.”

Dart would suffer the knee injury in the first quarter, leading many to worry, though there was comfort after as the initial diagnosis was that he sustained an MCL sprain. Even head coach John Harbaugh would mention how it's “really good news” that Dart's initial status wasn't severe, via the team's website.
Jameis Winston would come into the game for Dart, and the results were shaky, throwing for 111 passing yards on completing 11 of 27 pass attempts with one interception.
Dart wasn't the only Giants player injured, as defensive star Brian Burns (low ankle sprain) and offensive lineman Andrew Thomas (groin) didn't come back to the game after leaving the contest, though wide receiver Malik Nabers (shoulder) ended up returning.
At any rate, it remains to be seen what the official timetables look like for Dart and the other integral New York stars, as Week 3 for the Giants is on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.
