On Saturday, the Tennessee football program improved to 2-0 on the 2026 season with a comfortable road win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Josh Heupel's squad controlled this game from the jump, and Tennessee now has a good deal of momentum as they get ready to kick off the SEC portion of their schedule.

Unfortunately, on Monday, the team got a rough update in the injury department.

“Tennessee coach Josh Heupel announced Vols starting TE Ethan Davis is out for remainder of year after ACL injury. Significant loss for the Vols,” reported college football insider Pete Thamel of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.

Davis figured to play a big role for Tennessee in the passing game this year, in addition to his prowess as a blocker. He scored a touchdown during Saturday's road win against the Yellow Jackets, but ended up exiting the game shortly after due to the ACL injury. The Volunteers will likely try to replace his production by committee, with the star having already recorded three catches for 43 yards and two touchdowns so far this season prior to the injury.

Meanwhile, Tennessee is looking to take another step forward this year under Heupel, with some fans growing wary of the team's stagnation over the last couple of seasons. Last season, the Volunteers missed the playoffs altogether, having been demolished by Ohio State in the postseason the year before that.

In any case, Tennessee is set to continue its season on Saturday at home against the Kennessaw State Owls.
