The 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup has an official champion: Team USA. This ended up being the case after the Americans took down France 97-79 in the gold medal game on Sunday afternoon.

The U.S. went through a tough path to get to the final of the global tournament. They won all three of their group stage contests, taking down China, Italy and the Czech Republic in that order.

Topping the group to advance to the quarterfinals, they beat down Hungary. After that, they then defeated Spain in the semifinal to get to the gold medal game.

There, they faced France, who eliminated hosts Germany in the semis. The French actually tested the Americans well, leading by 14 points during the contest.

Despite this, the U.S. didn't waver in their determination. They stormed back in the second half and outmatched the French to come out on top as FIBA World champions once again. This marks their 12th World Cup title in national team history.
