The third Rolex Series event of the DP World Tour season takes place at Wentworth in Surrey this week, with the BMW PGA Championship attracting a top-class field headlined by Rory McIlroy.

Winner of the European circuit's flagship tournament back in 2014, the Northern Irishman arrives on the back of a disappointing tied-41st finish at last week's Irish Open, which Shane Lowry won by a record 11 shots.

Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Aberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland and Joaquin Niemann are just a few of the other players who will be battling it out for the title.

Reed to strengthen Race to Dubai grip

Patrick Reed has an 839.76 point lead at the top of the Race to Dubai standings, but with 8,000 R2D points available at the BMW PGA Championship, he knows he needs to keep his foot on the gas and keep producing solid results.

The American has a strong record at Wentworth, recording two third-place finishes, a fourth and a fifth on his four visits, and he heads into his fifth crack at the title in a confident mood.

Reed was tied 11th at the European Masters two weeks ago before grabbing a share of second position at the Irish Open on Sunday.

The 36-year-old, who is a two-time winner on the DP World Tour this season, is 13th in greens in regulation and second in strokes gained for both tee to green and approach on the European circuit.

Still boasting one of the most reliable short games, Reed has the skillset required to claim the spoils in Surrey. 

Consistent Wallace to get into contention

Matt Wallace has put together a strong run of results over his last five starts, producing form figures of T5-T7-T15-T9-T14, and he looks capable of winning this tournament for the first time.

The Englishman has come close to landing his first title since the 2024 European Masters several times this season, notably finishing runner-up at the Texas Open and Italian Open.

All facets of Wallace's game have been consistent this season and he ranks fourth in strokes gained tee to green, 16th in approach, second in around the green and 19th in putts per round.

With Ryder Cup points having been up for grabs since last month's British Masters, Wallace will be desperate for some big results to put himself in a strong position to qualify automatically.

Norris to make early headway

Shaun Norris' two BMW PGA Championship appearances have produced finishes of 72nd and 54th, which suggests it will not be third time lucky for him, but that does not mean he cannot make a fast start in Surrey.

The South African was tied for the first-round lead at the SunBet Challenge Times Square Casino on the Sunshine Tour four starts ago, while he was sitting fourth at the British Masters and third at the Irish after the opening 18 holes.

Norris has a habit of starting off quickly before fading away and he looks capable of making some early gains on Thursday.
