The backlash over Sydney Sweeney's nude sports gambling ad for Novig is still being felt, as the actress has now lost over 200,000 Instagram followers in the wake of the commercial airing.

According to Variety, her stock on the social media platform has been plummeting over the last week. In the three days after the commercial first came out, she gained 50,000 followers.

However, by Sunday, Sep. 13, she lost 136,848 followers. The following day, she lost another 68,000 followers. While these are big numbers, it's still a marginal loss from her 25 million followers.

Sweeney's latest ad rubbed a lot of female athletes the wrong way. Reigning Olympic champion Ariarne Titmus was “infuriated” watching it, calling it a “kick in the face” to women.

“Not only is it a kick in the face to every woman who has dedicated her life to perfecting her craft, but every woman who enjoys sports for what it really is — teamwork, friendship, dedication, excellence, unity,” Titmus wrote. “How do we live in a world where monetising a woman's body and sexualising women's sport is still a thing?”

American gymnast Gracie Kramer posted a video that showcased her abilities, writing, “Idk what Sydney Sweeney was doing, but this is what a woman in sports looks like,” over it.

The commercial features her semi- or fully nude in sports equipment. It begins with Sweeney, who is holding two footballs in front of her chest, asking, “Think you know sports? Prove it. Novig is just sports.”

She raved about the ad campaign in a statement, saying, “The campaign was about embracing a fun idea. The concept is simple: cut through the noise and put the focus entirely on sports. The campaign brings that idea to life with confidence, humor, and a playful edge.”
