The Ole Miss football program is currently gearing up for a huge game on Saturday evening at home against the LSU Tigers. This game will mark the return of head coach Lane Kiffin to face his former team after he abandoned them in controversial fashion last year, prior to their run in the playoffs.

Now, more information is coming to light on how the local student newspaper is preparing for the huge matchup, which also features two of the top teams in the country, in addition to the Kiffin storyline.

“The Daily Mississippian is planning an editorial this week asking everyone in the stadium to greet Kiffin with the collective sound of silence. No reaction. Blow him off altogether,” reported Joe Rexrode of The Athletic.

“I know that probably won’t happen, but I would love for it to,” said Editor-in-Chief Raegan Settle. “There’s nothing that could mess with his psyche more than walking into a silent stadium.”

However, as Rexrode noted, “Overserved students represent most of the concern for the adults charged with keeping things under control Saturday,” which might put a dent in the plans to be silent.

Whatever reaction Kiffin gets, it's sure to be an unfriendly one, as he opted to abandon the Ole Miss team last year just as they were preparing to embark on their playoff run.

The Rebels ended up blowing out Tulane and upsetting the Georgia Bulldogs before coming up just short against the Miami Hurricanes in the semifinal round, and have much of the same team, including quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, back in Oxford this year.

In any case, kickoff between Ole Miss and LSU is set for Saturday at 7:30 pm ET.
