Steve Kerr was full of praise after the Golden State Valkyries completed one of the biggest comebacks in WNBA playoff history Friday night, rallying from a 16-point deficit to defeat the Dallas Wings 77-73 in Game 3.
It was also the first playoff series win in franchise history for the Valkyries.
The Golden State Warriors head coach, who has been a longtime supporter of the Valkyries and their place within the Bay Area basketball community, gave props to the city women’s basketball team.
“I'm just relieved and happy for them. What a gritty win to be down. The kind of win that gives you belief and even more confidence because now you've been under that kind of pressure,” Kerr said.

The Valkyries appeared to be in trouble after Dallas built a 16-point advantage in the third quarter. Golden State had missed 15 straight shots during a stretch in which the Wings scored 20 consecutive points.
Coach Natalie Nakase responded by briefly taking Gabby Williams out of the game. The move helped Williams reset before she returned and became one of the biggest factors in the comeback.
Veronica Burton finally ended Golden State's scoring drought with a step-back 3-pointer. Williams then hit a 3 of her own before the Valkyries continued cutting into Dallas' lead.
Williams scored on a midrange jumper before making four free throws in the final seconds. She finished with 19 points, while Tiffany Hayes added 18.
The Valkyries are now getting ready to take up the challenge against Las Vegas. Game 1 of the semifinal series is scheduled for Sunday at Chase Center.
