Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr was ecstatic for Gabby Williams and the Golden State Valkyries after they trounced the Atlanta Dream in Game 7 of the WNBA Finals on Saturday. The Valkyries outlasted the Dream, 68-63, at Chase Center on Saturday to win their first title in just their second year in the league.

Kerr enjoyed watching the Valkyries' inspiring run, while also recognizing the Dream's fighting spirit. The game went down to the wire, with Veronica Burton sinking two free throws with 5.1 seconds left to seal the historic championship.

Williams scored 28 of her 30 points in the second half to power the Valkyries. She added three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and four blocks, earning the Finals MVP. Kerr was impressed with Williams' tenacity and resolve.

“The drama, the grit. Just typical Game 7. Finding a way. Gabby Williams just erupting in that second half was amazing to watch,” said Kerr in a media conference.

“As a basketball fan, I think you just embrace games like that. Just watching what it takes, the competitive desire of both teams, and everything on the line, and how fun it is for us as fans and how incredibly stressful it is for the teams involved,” added Kerr.

“We're so excited for the Valkyries, for Natalie (Nakase), for everybody involved. It's just an incredible turnaround.”

Williams joined Penny Taylor as the only players in league history to score 30 points in a winner-take-all game in the WNBA Finals.
