With the way things are going, it looks like the standoff between Joey Porter Jr. and the Pittsburgh Steelers will last longer than the climate crisis.

Porter and the Steelers have struggled to find a compromise regarding the star cornerback's contract extension. He sat out their win against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1. He was present on the sideline at Acrisure Stadium.

The 26-year-old Porter missed all of training camp due to a back injury.

According to a report from ESPN's Brooke Pryor and Jeremy Fowler, the stalemate between Porter and the Steelers could really go south, citing a “fracture in the relationship.”

“‘I don't know if he ever puts on a Steelers uniform again,' a source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN,” wrote Pryor and Fowler.

Porter is coming off a productive campaign, tallying 52 total tackles, one sack, one interception, and a career-best 14 passes defended in 14 games last season.

He is reportedly seeking an annual salary of around $30 million. Pittsburgh, however, has refused to budge.

“The core issue is the structure of the contract, sources told ESPN, and the Steelers' organizational precedent that doesn't fully guarantee a healthy portion of the contract was considered a sizable hurdle,” added Pryor and Fowler.

“The sides simply did not get close to bridging that guaranteed gap, which sources say made any talks about a per-year average on a deal moot. ‘It never even got that far,' a source said.”

Coach Mike McCarthy has remained mum about the availability of Porter against the New England Patriots on Sunday. He has been a limited participant in practice.
