The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the surprises of the NFL so far this season, racing out to a 4-2 start in Mike McCarthy's first season as head coach. On Sunday, however, they didn't have it all their own way against a struggling Tampa Bay buccaneers squad.
Pittsburgh found itself trailing 16-3 in the second half, but Aaron Rodgers and company worked their way back to force overtime. After Rodgers led Pittsburgh on a touchdown drive, star defensive back Jalen Ramsey came up with a big sack of Jalon Daniels on fourth down to end the game and give the Steelers a 26-19 win.
After the game, Ramsey went straight to social media with his instant reaction to saving the day for the Steelers on a day where he looked like his prime self.
“All Glory to God,” Ramsey wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Ramsey, being deployed as a do-it-all nickel who spends a lot of time down in the box and as a blitzer but also as an impactful player in coverage, had one of his best games as a Steeler in the win on Sunday. He finished the day with 10 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and two more QB hits. Pittsburgh wanted to make Daniels, a rookie making his third career start, feel the pressure, and Ramsey helped do just that.
Article Continues BelowThere are some holes in this Steelers defense, but using Ramsey as a torpedo underneath helps them create negative plays for opposing offenses. That can be enough to get Rodgers enough bites at the apple to stay in the win column.
On the other side of the ball, Rodgers and the Steelers are taking their death by 1,000 cuts approach and hurting defenses with it consistently. Jaylen Warren has been one of the best running backs in the NFL so far this season, and DK Metcalf and Germie Bernard have been rock-solid at wide receiver. As a result of that, the Steelers are right in the middle of the AFC playoff race through six weeks.
