The Dallas Stars are bringing veteran forward David Perron aboard on a one-year, $850,000 contract as they look to bolster their offensive depth following Matt Duchene's injury. The 38-year-old winger will suit up for his 20th NHL season with his eighth team.

Perron's deal carries a pro-rated league-minimum salary, meaning Dallas will pay him according to the time he spends on its roster, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and Frank Seravalli.

The Sherbrooke, Quebec, native arrives with years of NHL experience, having recorded 332 goals and 812 points across 1,239 regular-season games. He was selected 26th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2007 NHL Draft and has played for seven franchises during his career.

Perron won the Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019, contributing 16 points in 26 playoff games during the championship run. He spent 11 of his 20 NHL seasons with the Blues across three separate stints.

Perron split the 2025-26 campaign between the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings. He racked up 13 goals and 28 points in 65 appearances, including 25 points in 49 games with the Ottawa Senators before returning to the Detroit Red Wings in March.

Although Perron managed just three goals and no assists in 16 games during his second run with Detroit, his earlier tenure with the Red Wings showed his offensive potential. He compiled more than 45 points in the 2023-24 season and had 46 points in 57 regular-season games in 2018-19.

Dallas has reason to seek additional offensive production. Through seven games this season, the Stars have averaged 2.14 goals per contest, ranking 30th in the NHL. Their forward group has also been affected by injuries to Duchene, Wyatt Johnston and Oskar Back.

Duchene is expected to miss three months after undergoing core surgery, while Johnston and Back are considered day-to-day. The loss of Duchene has increased the need for another experienced forward who can contribute offensively.

With seven games behind them, the Stars hold a 3-3-1 record heading into Saturday's road game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
