The San Antonio Spurs are just days away from kicking off their 2026-27 NBA season, looking to bounce back from last year's repeated collapses in the NBA Finals. The Spurs are bringing back most of the same core as a year ago, headlined by Victor Wembanyama, who signed a contract extension with the team this offseason.

Recently, the NBA conducted a poll of general managers and asked several questions designed to highlight individual players, and Wembanyama led the voting in several categories, including MVP for the upcoming year, the player that they'd most like to build around, the best international player, and multiple others.

However, the one category he didn't get the nod for was the best center, as that distinction went to Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets.

It's seemingly a contradiction that some of the general managers found Wemby to be the best international player and Jokic as the best center, considering that both play the same position.

However, there's certainly no shame in coming up short to the Joker, who has won three MVPs in his Hall of Fame career.

Wembanyama garnered some serious consideration for that award a year ago, and now, he's looking to prove that he can get it done on the game's biggest stage, after largely turning in a disappointing performance in the NBA Finals this past season.

Before that, the Spurs will have to prove they don't have any hangover after seeing a championship repeatedly fall through their grasp against the New York Knicks.

San Antonio is slated to kick off its new season on October 20 at home vs the Oklahoma City Thunder.
