The Denver Broncos are gearing up for their rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday. The Broncos are seeking revenge after the Chiefs blew them out, 31-10, in Week 1 at Arrowhead Stadium.
The stage is set for the latest chapter in the storied rivalry between Denver and Kansas City, who have been competing against each other in the AFC West since the 1960s.
Coach Sean Payton, however, downplayed the fierce matchup, although he recognized the value of battling a division rival.
“I've said this 100 times. Divisional games are always important. I don't see rivalry weeks in the NFL. They are generally divisional games,” said Payton, as quoted by DNVR Sports' Zac Stevens.
“I don't see Auburn-Alabama. I don't see Ohio State-Michigan.”
Before getting his break in the NFL, Payton held various positions at San Diego State, Indiana State, Miami, and Illinois.
The Chiefs lead the all-time series against the Broncos, 74-59, including a 16-game winning streak from 2015 to 2023.

Bo Nix went 17-of-28 for 131 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while Patrick Mahomes threw 15-of-27 for 184 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also scored on a seven-yard rush.
Payton was left rueing their mistakes, admitting that it was “not a good evening,” as quoted by the Associated Press' Dave Skretta.
Zach Allen, Talanoa Hufanga, Patrick Surtain II, and Jaylen Waddle have all been tagged as questionable for Sunday due to various ailments.
