The Seattle Seahawks walked in earning a chance to further bury the winless Los Angeles Chargers. The Sam Darnold versus Justin Herbert showdown billed by national media, however, took a rare historic turn. By making some unwanted NFL history.
Herbert started the game by making his fanbase cringe. By throwing an interception on the opening play of the contest inside Lumen Field.
However, Darnold didn't fare much better as he delivered this miscue on the opening play for the Seahawks.
SAM DARNOLD RETURNS THE FAVOR 😭

The account QBgami on the social media website X, formerly Twitter, revealed new league history became made by both passers.
“It's the first time in the 100+ year history of the league that both starting quarterbacks thew an interception on the first two plays of a game,” the account shared.
So Darnold and Herbert join some unwanted history. And it rises as their latest miscue in what's become a star-crossed career for both quarterbacks who arrived to the league nearly around the same time. Although Darnold holds the upper hand over Herbert when it comes to Super Bowl rings with one.
Still, both quarterbacks endured a rigid start to the game. But Darnold and the Seahawks ultimately adjusted.
Darnold went 9-of-14 passing for 116 yards and fired off one touchdown after that pick. Seattle racked up 190 yards through the second quarter including 82 via the ground attack. The Seahawks took a massive 20-3 lead before halftime. Which now has the Bolts staring at a stunning 0-4 start to the 2026 season. And this is a Chargers team that's gone to the last two playoffs under head coach Jim Harbaugh.
