New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough has reportedly been playing through two broken bones in his left hand. The surprising revelation comes after the Saints quarterback previously downplayed concerns about his hand injury.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Shough has continued playing despite fractures in his non-throwing hand.

The injury reportedly occurred during New Orleans' Week 4 defeat against the Atlanta Falcons. Shough sustained the damage when his left hand was struck during the first half.

Despite the injury, the second-year quarterback started against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5.

Shough struggled in that contest, completing 16 of 25 passes for just 96 yards. He also threw two interceptions during the Saints' 23-13 defeat.

The quarterback has reportedly been taping his ring and pinky fingers together for additional support. He also adjusted how he handed off the football against Minnesota.

However, Shough is not expected to miss playing time because of the injury.

The 27-year-old participated fully in practice throughout the week and carries no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the New York Giants.

New Orleans has not publicly confirmed the reported fractures.

The revelation adds another concern for a Saints team struggling through a 1-4 start.

Shough recently addressed owner Gayle Benson's criticism of the team's disappointing performances.

With pressure mounting on the offense, his ability to manage the injury could become an important storyline moving forward.

For now, Shough remains on track to start against the New York Giants despite the reported fractures.

His toughness offers encouragement, but protecting the injured hand remains crucial as New Orleans seeks improvement.
