The New Orleans Saints received an encouraging injury update regarding rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson as they prepare for their Week 9 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, with the NFC South race still within reach despite their 2-5 start.
Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reported Wednesday on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Tyson is returning to practice following an extended absence.
“Jordyn Tyson is returning to practice today, per source,” Underhill reported.
The development provides a potential boost to head coach Kellen Moore's offense as New Orleans looks to rebound from its Week 7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Paris and a subsequent bye week.
Tyson, 22, has dealt with a hamstring injury that interrupted his rookie campaign. His return to practice represents a positive step toward getting back on the field, although his availability for Sunday's matchup remains uncertain.
Saints remain within striking distance in NFC South race
The Saints selected the former Arizona State standout with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, hoping to add another dynamic receiving option alongside Chris Olave for quarterback Tyler Shough.
Tyson's ability to create separation and generate yards after the catch could provide New Orleans with an additional offensive dimension as the team attempts to overcome its early-season struggles.
Despite sitting at the bottom of the NFC South, New Orleans remains just one game behind the division-leading Carolina Panthers (3-4). Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-5) and Atlanta Falcons (3-5) are tied for second place, leaving the division wide open entering Week 9.
Article Continues BelowThe Saints have struggled to gain momentum, losing four of their last five games. However, with every NFC South team currently holding a losing record, New Orleans still has an opportunity to make a push toward the top of the standings.
Tyson's eventual return could become an important factor in that pursuit as the Saints look to improve their offensive production.
New Orleans will host Cleveland (5-3) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
