The Carolina Panthers are finally seeing the version of Bryce Young they envisioned when they made him the No. 1 overall pick in 2023.

According to former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson, much of Young's development can be credited to Panthers head coach Dave Canales, who has helped bring stability to the young quarterback.

“I think the discipline that Dave Canales is giving Bryce Young is really allowing the star to really develop,” Wilson said on CBS.

Young's career got off to a rocky start, but Canales has seemingly helped him settle into the NFL. Wilson pointed to those early struggles while praising Canales for his ability to develop quarterbacks.

“He had his bumps in the road early on in his career… but Canales settled everything down,” Wilson said. “He's an amazing teacher.”

Wilson has firsthand experience with Canales as a coach. The two worked together with the Seattle Seahawks, giving Wilson a firsthand perspective on the type of teacher Canales can be. That experience is also why Wilson believes the Panthers deserve credit for giving Canales enough time to figure things out.

NFL teams are often quick to make changes when things don't immediately go according to plan. Carolina could have easily gone down that road, especially after Young struggled during the early portion of his career. Instead, the Panthers stuck with Canales.

That patience may finally be paying off. Young looks far more comfortable, and Carolina has quickly gone from a team searching for answers to one with playoff aspirations. The season is still in its early stages, so there is plenty left to prove, but the Panthers are giving their fans a reason to believe.

Quarterbacks don't always develop overnight. Sometimes, organizations simply need to give the right coach enough time to teach, adjust, and build confidence in a young quarterback. The Panthers appear to be reaping the benefits of that patience.

If Young continues developing under Canales, Carolina could finally have the foundation it has been searching for.
