After spending almost two decades in the league, speculation around Kevin Durant’s last dance is getting a lot of buzz. The 2026 NBA season ended in frustration for the veteran forward after an ankle injury limited his playoff action.

However, now, entering his 19th NBA season, Durant faced questions about the Houston Rockets being his last stop before he finally hangs up his sneakers. The two-time NBA champion shrugged off any such speculation.

“I’m not thinking about anything like that,” he said. “I enjoy coming into work every day. It’s been fun going through the process with everybody. I’m taking it a day at a time.”

During last season, Durant averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in the 78 games he played. He remains one of Houston’s most important players as the Rockets look to build on a 52-win season.

Durant also has a decision coming after the season. His contract includes a player option for 2027-28, giving him the chance to remain in Houston or enter free agency next summer. For now, though, he does not appear interested in looking that far ahead.

The Rockets have plenty to build around, with Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson leading a young core that gained valuable playoff experience last season.

Houston’s first-round series ended after Durant missed most of it because of an injury, leaving the team with plenty to prove this season. Kevin Durant has also pushed back on the idea that he should take a lighter workload because of his age.

“Who knows what will happen down the line or in the future?” Durant said. “Right now, I enjoy showing up for work.”

For now, that is the clearest answer Durant has given about his future. With NBA season kicking off October 20, the Rockets will open their season with a game against the Dallas Mavericks on the very next day.
