There are moments in sports that make fans feel old. One of those moments happened this weekend. The son of Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis, Jerome Bettis Jr., caught a touchdown pass for Notre Dame. Now, the Miami Marlins are making fans feel old all over again.
The Marlins have agreed to terms with the son of a former MLB player, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
“Robinson Cano Jr. has agreed to terms with the Marlins on a deal worth about $1M,” Heyman posted to X, formerly Twitter.
Cano Jr. is the son of Robinson Cano. The senior Cano made his MLB debut with the New York Yankees in 2005 and played with them through the 2013 season, after signing as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic. He then spent 2014 through 2018 with the Seattle Mariners before stints with the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, and Atlanta Braves. He was released by the Braves in August 2022 and did not sign with a major league team afterward.

The younger Cano is just 16 years old. He has played with the Mexican League Diablos Rojos del Mexico. He hit .291 with 15 home runs and 72 RBIs this past season. If he makes it to the majors, he will be part of a growing list of sons in the major leagues. This includes players such as Bobby Witt Jr., Fernando Tatis Jr., Valdimir Guerror Jr., Cody Bellinger, Bo Bichette, and Jackson Holliday.
