Before Jalen Brunson became an NBA champion, the New York Knicks star also tried a different sport when he was younger.

In an appearance on the Tamron Hall Show on Sept. 21, Jalen was joined by his father, Rick Brunson, and mother, Sandra Brunson, who were asked if the NBA player was bad at anything growing up.

Rick, who is now the assistant coach with the Knicks, did not hold back when he shared that Jalen was “awful” at this sport.

“Football, oh yeah, awful,” Rick responded.

Sandra shook her head in disagreement, and Rick added to his point, “I was hurting for him.”

“Oh man,” Jalen said, putting his hand on his head.

“I wouldn't say I don't think football counts,” Sandra responded in Jalen's defense.

Rick then began to share some evidence to back up his claim.

“A lot of parents know you play Pop Warner; everyone has to play eight plays no matter what,” Rick said before throwing another dig at Jalen, “He was the eight play guy.”

After Rick's response Jalen jumped in and said, “Alright alright. That's where I draw the line.”

Hall chimed in theoretically thinking of Jalen's point of view of the conversation, “Enough already we're on TV and they'll play this forever.”

“You're not going to spread lies,” Jalen jokingly said back to Rick.

Rick Brunson and Jalen Brunson on historic Knicks championship win

Rick was a part of the 1999 Knicks team that lost to the San Antonio Spurs and now as an assistant coach of the Knicks he was able to earn a championship ring with his son at the helm. He spoke about what that meant to him enjoy this moment alongside his son.

“It's crazy to me,” Rick told ABC News' Will Reeve on Good Morning America. “I never envisioned to this level. I just envisioned, like anyone who has children, you want success for them, but I get so much pride watching them and hopefully we can get to the mountaintop and celebrate as a family.”

Jalen also spoke about how his relationship with his father motivate one another.

“Our relationship is unique and people may think just because he pushes me a certain way that we don't say things to each other, but I wouldn't trade anything for the world,” Jalen said of his father. “We have the best relationship. Even when it looks like we're fighting, that's just a coach and player trying to get over to get to the promised land.”
