The chances of tight end Sam LaPorta hitting free agency next year are reportedly looking a little better.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that LaPorta and the Lions have broken off talks on a contract extension. The 2023 second-round pick is in the final year of his rookie deal.
LaPorta and the Lions could revisit talks later in the season or early in the offseason. The team could also use the franchise tag to hold onto LaPorta, so it’s not a sure thing that he’ll be talking to other teams come March.
LaPorta has 14 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown so far this season.
