Detroit Red Wings owner Chris Ilitch has made it clear that Dylan Larkin could remain with the team for the entire 2026-27 season despite the veteran center's trade request.

“Yes, he could be here all year,” Ilitch told The Detroit News, per NHL.com.

Larkin requested a trade in June following his 11th season with Detroit. The Red Wings missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 10th consecutive season, and the 30-year-old reportedly identified four teams he would accept a trade to: the Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild and Vegas Golden Knights.

Ilitch stressed that Larkin remains under contract with Detroit and is expected at training camp.

“All I can do is say Dylan Larkin is under contract. He's a Red Wing. He's coming back to our camp to play for our team this year,” said Ilitch. We're going to do everything we can to support Dylan and ensure he's able to reach his full potential.”

The situation comes during a major change in Detroit's hockey operations. Steve Yzerman stepped down from his general manager position back in July, becoming a senior adviser to Ilitch. On Tuesday, the Red Wings announced Shawn Horcoff as interim general manager while the organization searches for its next hockey operations leader.

Horcoff will oversee the team's day-to-day operations in the short term. Among the immediate contract matters are defenseman Simon Edvinsson, a restricted free agent, and forward Alex DeBrincat, who can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. Training camp begins Thursday.

Larkin also had his captaincy removed earlier in September, with Detroit confirming he would attend training camp while the team begins the season without a captain.

Last season, Larkin recorded 67 points in 74 games and won Olympic gold with the United States at the Milan Cortina Games. He is signed through 2031 with an $8.7 million salary-cap hit.

Ilitch said discussions regarding Larkin's future with the Red Wings will remain private as the season approaches.
