Georgia football, led by Gunner Stockton, is coming off a massive win on Saturday, defeating Alabama 20-17. Stockton had a career day against Alabama, throwing for 249 yards and a touchdown in the victory.
Now, Rece Davis of ESPN is explaining why the quarterback was able to have such a huge day, speaking on the Pat McAfee Show.
“That's the first thing I think that stuck out to me more than anything else in this entire weekend was the Georgia offensive line. Really, both lines of scrimmage, but particularly that front against Alabama. They kept opening up holes for Dwight Philips, who came from deep on the depth chart and just kept having explosive run after explosive run,” David said. “They protected Gunner Stockton, who I think played the best game of his career on Saturday night and had so many clutch throws. Kirby Smart, the audio has leaked from the locker room, and he said, ‘This is a him or me game.' Georgia looked like him.”

Beyond the touchdown through the air, Stockton also scored on the ground and was sacked just once. Meanwhile, the running backs had a huge game. Dwight Phillips Jr. ran 17 times for 120 yards, while Bo Walker ran ten times for 69 yards in the victory.
With the win, Georgia became the number one team in the nation. They will look to defend that crown and keep their undefeated season as they host Auburn on Saturday, with kickoff set for 3:30 pm ET.
