Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase was fined earlier in the season for a controversial celebration he called “the people's elbow” during the club's 20-6 Week 2 win over the Houston Texans. The league initially fined him a total of $14,926, but new reports say that Chase no longer has to pay the fine.

The 26-year-old won his appeal for both fines that totaled $14,926, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Chase argued that he was not given a warning, nor was the celebration with teammate Tee Higgins meant to be offensive.

“Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase won appeals of fines for his ‘people’s elbow' celebration, as two fines of $14,926 were rescinded from the Texans game,” Rapoport reported.

“From the appeals office letter, ‘On appeal, Mr. Chase … further contended that even if he committed the violation, his fine should be reduced because he received no warning that this was not allowed,' said the appeal letter. ‘He added that this is a new celebration with his teammate and that it is not offensive. Mr. Chase finally stated that the NFL is assuming the worst of him and his teammate without discussing with the NFLPA.'”

With the appeal won, perhaps Bengals fans will see the “people's elbow” celebration return the next time Ja'Marr Chase finds the end zone. The six-year veteran has found pay dirt four times through five games this season.

Chase will have a chance to continue his solid campaign in Week 7, as the franchise gets a bye in Week 6. The Bengals are scheduled to take on the Baltimore Ravens next after the bye. The two-time First-Team All-Pro will go into that game with 27 receptions, 289 yards, and four touchdowns.
