On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens took their third straight loss with a blowout road defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Bills. This game marked the return of quarterback Lamar Jackson from an ankle injury, but unfortunately, that didn't last long, as the quarterback exited in the first drive of the game with a thumb injury.

After the game, the team got a brutal update on his status moving forward.

“Ravens QB Lamar Jackson needs surgery on his thumb and is going on injured reserve, coach Jesse Minter told reporters,” reported NFL insider Tom Pelissero of The Ringer on X, formerly Twitter.

It's certainly a devastating turn of events for the Ravens, who had suffered through two straight rough offensive games under Tyler Huntley over the last couple of weeks prior to Jackson's return, which only turned out to last a couple of plays.

Meanwhile, Minter said “We'll see” when asked if the injury would be season-ending, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on X.

The Ravens were only to put 10 points on the board in Sunday's blowout loss, with backup quarterback Joe Fagnano taking most of the snaps but throwing for just 91 yards in the loss.

Baltimore now sits at a tepid 4-4 on the season, falling further behind the Pittsburgh Steelers in the race for the top seed in the AFC North, with Jackson now unable to avoid the label of an injury risk that has plagued him the last few seasons.

The Ravens will next hit the field on Thursday vs the Jacksonville Jaguars.
