The Los Angeles Rams absorbed a gut punch on Monday, bowing to the Buffalo Bills in overtime, 37-34, at SoFi Stadium, turning their thrilling comeback into a heartbreaking defeat.

The Rams averted defeat in regulation after Kyren Williams' gutsy touchdown. They, however, failed to build on the momentum in overtime. Harrison Mevis' field-goal attempt was blocked, leading to Tyler Bass' game-winning kick for the Bills.

Los Angeles fell to 2-3, while Buffalo improved to 4-1.

The Ringer's Sheil Kapadia pointed out how anomalous the Rams' painful loss was.

“That was a 99th percentile offensive performance by the Rams, based on EPA (expected points added) per drive,” wrote Kapadia on X.

“No other team has had an offensive game at that level and still lost in the last two seasons.”

The Rams scored their highest output this season. They finished with 454 total yards on 78 plays, mostly in the air.

Matthew Stafford was special, throwing 40-of-54 for 383 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Williams had 16 carries for 49 yards and one touchdown, while Puka Nacua tallied a career-best 17 receptions for 178 yards and one touchdown.

Davante Adams added five catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns. He also tied Larry Fitzgerald for the sixth-most receiving touchdowns in league history.

Coach Sean McVay shouldered the blame for falling short and lauded his players' competitiveness.

“I'm sick right now with myself, and I'm so proud of that group. This is the tough part of sports, but I'm proud of that team. I'm proud of the way we battled,” said McVay in a report from the Associated Press' Greg Beacham.

The Rams will host the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6.
