The Las Vegas Raiders are adding wide receiver Jamari Thrash to their practice squad, giving an injury-hit position group another option. The former Cleveland Browns draft pick is healthy after being waived off injured reserve last month and now gets an opportunity in Las Vegas.

Thrash’s arrival comes with Jack Bech on injured reserve and Jalen Nailor having missed Week 5 because of a concussion. Those absences have reduced the Raiders’ receiving depth, making another addition understandable even without a role on the active roster.

Cleveland selected Thrash in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. His draft pedigree offers a reason for interest, but the significance of this move is availability: Las Vegas can evaluate a healthy receiver while navigating uncertainty around its existing personnel.

Bech’s situation has prompted adjustments. The Raiders placed him on injured reserve on Sept. 29, signed Cody White to the active roster and added veteran Phillip Dorsett to the practice squad. Thrash joins that effort to maintain options at receiver.

Nailor’s absence adds another concern, although signing Thrash does not establish how long Nailor will remain unavailable. His status must be determined separately, and the Raiders’ upcoming injury reports should provide a picture of the group’s readiness.

For Thrash, the first task is earning trust in a new environment. Learning assignments, developing timing and demonstrating consistency in practice will matter more immediately than projecting an offensive workload.

For Las Vegas, this is a depth investment rather than proof of a major offensive overhaul. A practice-squad agreement does not automatically place Thrash in the game-day rotation or establish that he will replace either injured receiver.

The move nevertheless gives the Raiders flexibility. With Bech sidelined and Nailor’s availability uncertain, adding another target provides insurance while creating an opportunity for Thrash to restart his career.
