Ashton Jeanty spent his rookie season grinding behind one of the NFL’s worst offensive lines on a 3-14 Las Vegas Raiders team. In Year 2, Klint Kubiak has handed him a bigger role, and the running back is thrilled with how it has gone.

Jeanty said he likes how the new head coach has used him as a pass catcher through the first four weeks of the season.

“I feel like that was an area of my game that I didn’t get to utilize as much, so coming in with this new scheme and being more involved in the pass game is great,” Jeanty said.

The numbers back up that excitement. Jeanty’s 165 receiving yards are third-most among running backs this season, and his two receiving touchdowns are tied for the most at the position. His 24 targets rank third among backs.

Both of those touchdowns came in the season opener, a 27-13 win over the Miami Dolphins that kicked off the Kubiak era. Jeanty also ran for 102 yards on 23 carries in that game, and according to the Raiders, he became just the second player since the 1970 merger with two multi-touchdown receiving games within his first 20 career contests.

He added six catches for 68 yards in Sunday’s 30-27 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the team’s first loss of the season.

Jeanty graded his own start as a “solid job,” though he was quick to point out areas for growth. He said he can be better in pass protection and wants to make sharper reads in the run game.

The run game has been a sore spot. Jeanty managed 58 yards on 15 carries against Kansas City, and Raiders ball carriers are averaging just 0.38 yards before contact per rush, which ranks 31st in the NFL. Kubiak took responsibility for those struggles this week.

Kubiak arrived after serving as the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator, and his system has helped revive the Raiders’ offense. Kirk Cousins leads the NFL with 11 touchdown passes, and Las Vegas is 3-1, already matching its win total from a 3-14 campaign in 2025.

The Raiders visit the New England Patriots on Sunday.
