India Under-19 494 (Raichandani 240, Ulva 92, Barton 3-83) beat Australia Under-19 217 (Cattle 102, Hollick 59, Om 5-53) and 229 (Cattle 123, Yashbardhan 6-75, Om 4-62) by an innings and 48 runs
Lakshya Raichandani's 240, combined with superb bowling performances from Mohit Ulva, Ishan Om and Yashbardhan Chauhan, handed India U-19 a dominant innings win against Australia U-19 in the first Youth Test in Rajkot.
After India posted 494 in response to Australia's first-innings 217, the visitors could only manage 229 in their second innings, with Om and Yashbardhan sharing all ten wickets. Blake Cattle made 123, his second century of the match, but the rest of the batting faltered as India cantered to a win in three days.
Raichandani added 30 more to his overnight 210, and was the first wicket to fall on the day. He put on a 180-run ninth-wicket stand with Ulva, who made 92 off 84 balls, hitting ten fours and four sixes.
In turn, it wasn't an easy start for Australia. Left-arm spinner Om picked up three wickets in one over, removing Hayden Barbulovic, captain Matthew Lough and Zed Hollick, leaving Australia reeling at 17 for 3. Cattle then joined opener Neel Patel at the crease, and the duo steadied the innings with a 60-run stand. Yashbardhan then broke the stand, having Patel bowled for 41.
Yashbardhan's double-strike in the 26th over further dented Australia's hopes, leaving them at 87 for 6. He bagged his third, removing Kasey Barton for 8.
Cattle, however, kept going at a quick strike rate, with little support from the other end. His 123 off 114 included 16 fours and four sixes as he pushed Australia past 200, but Yashbardhan ended his stay in the 58th over. Om picked up one more wicket to take his match tally to nine, while Yashbardhan dismissed the last batter to finish with a six-for and eight in the match.
