Premier League boss urges Thomas Tuchel to pick uncapped 26-year-old for England

Daniel Farke has insisted Jayden Bogle should be considered for an England call-up alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The two players starred in Leeds' 4-1 thrashing of Newcastle on Monday, with both playing starring roles.

Victory saw the Whites continue their excellent start to the season, who sit third in the Premier League with eight points from four games.

Striker Calvert-Lewin boosted his case for an England recall by grabbing his third goal of the campaign against the Magpies.

He has since had his goal tally boosted to four, after Bogle was initially awarded the opening goal on Monday night.

Calvert-Lewin assumed he had doubled Leeds' lead at Elland Road when he rose to meet James Justin's header, but he headed the ball off Bogle before it ended up in the back of the net.

However, they submitted an appeal to ensure he got the goal, with the Premier League since awarding the frontman.

Farke highlights Bogle form

There has been plenty of debate over whether Calvert-Lewin's form merits a recall for England's September upcoming Nations League games against Spain, Czech Republic and Croatia.

However, Leeds boss Farke was quick to highlight the impressive performances of right-back Bogle of late.

The 26-year-old, a £5million signing from Sheffield United in 2024, has played a key part in Leeds’ impressive run of just five defeats in their past 29 league games.

Initially discussing Calvert-Lewin's England hopes, Farke said: “Definitely realistic, but there are a few other names on my mind with an English passport after a performance like this.”

Asked whether by this he meant a potential Bogle call-up, he added: “Yes, and he also has an English passport. Yes, I agree.”

While Bogle had his goal against Newcastle taken away by Calvert-Lewin, he still earned plenty of plaudits for his performance.

He was named Leeds' Player of the Match in the thumping win as he impressed with his tireless running down the right flank.

The Derby academy graduate's electric form was recently rewarded with a new four-year contract at Elland Road.

Having been capped four times by England at Under-20 level, Bogle will now be eagerly awaiting Thomas Tuchel's upcoming announcement.

The Three Lions boss will name his latest squad on Friday morning, ahead of a new-look three-week international break.

Calvert-Lewin debate rumbles on

While Farke put forward a case for Bogle to earn his first senior England call-up, much of the debate has centred around Calvert-Lewin's hopes of an international renaissance.

Having earned a recall earlier this year after a five-year absence, the striker has scored four goals in 12 appearances for his country.

And while his strong club form has seen him tipped to return to the fold, ex-Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbolahor has argued against this, insisting Saud-based duo Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney remain better options.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: "I just don't think he's [Calvert-Lewin] at the level of what I want for my England striker, I just don't think he is."

Agbonlahor was then asked whether he still believes that Toney and Watkins are ahead of Calvert-Lewin in the selection process.

To which he said: "I think they're better players than Calvert-Lewin, I think they offer something different.

“His hold-up play was good last night, listen, the header actually would have been his goal. Took his second goal, and I think he scored, very well. But I just think there's something missing with Calvert-Lewin.”
