The Nashville Predators acquired Shane Wright in a trade with the Seattle Kraken on Sunday. This ends a bit of a saga within the Kraken. Wright has preferred a trade out of Seattle for a while now. He finally got his wish with this move.
The newest Predators forward has had a rollercoaster of a career to this point. He was never able to establish himself as part of the Kraken's core group of forwards. Nashville is excited to get a chance to work with him, as general manager Chris MacFarland explained on Sunday.
“We are excited to add Shane to our mix of forwards,” the Predators GM said, via NHL.com. “We feel he will bring a strong, two-way game to our team and will add to the pace of our lineup… Shane will continue to grow as a player, and we look forward to working with him.”
Wright played nearly 170 games with Seattle prior to this trade. He scored 39 goals and 82 points in that time. The former fourth overall pick only has four points in 14 games this season.
Article Continues BelowIn return for Wright, the Predators sent young winger Matthew Wood to the Kraken. Wood, a former first-round pick, had just three points this season through 14 games. The 21-year-old scored 17 goals and 30 points during his first full NHL season in 2025-26.
Wright finally has the fresh start he has sought for some time. What sort of impact he brings remains to be seen, but a fresh start inherently brings a new opportunity to thrive. The Predators return to the ice on Tuesday when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes.
