The No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers earned a big 42-9 Week 3 win over the Kennesaw State Owls on Saturday. However, the team didn't leave the game unscathed, as star running back DeSean Bishop left the contest early due to an injury. With a huge matchup in Week 4 against the No. 1 Texas Longhorns on the horizon, college football insider Pete Nakos shared some inspiring news regarding Bishop's situation.
Nakos informed Tennessee fans on Volquest, an affiliate of On3 Sports, that the apparent hip injury the senior ball carrier suffered is not believed to be serious. While Nakos admitted he does not have the full details about the injury and is waiting for the official injury report like everyone else, he did claim that the Volunteers are expecting Bishop to play against Texas.
DeSean Bishop left Saturday's contest after nine attempts on the ground. He finished the day with 42 yards and a touchdown. He was one of four individuals to score a rushing touchdown against Kennesaw State.
Bishop originally joined Tennessee before the 2024-25 season as a true freshman. He's remained with the program throughout his collegiate career. The 2025-26 campaign was the first time he surpassed the 1,000-yard mark, finishing last year with 1,076 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Having the Tennessee native available for the upcoming Texas game would be ideal for the Volunteers. The Longhorns are coming off a 30-6 Week 3 win over the UTSA Roadrunners right after their amazing comeback 24-23 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes the previous week.
It's a big moment for head coach Josh Heupel as well. Since accepting the Tennessee job, Heupel is 3-6 against top-10-ranked opponents, with the last victory coming against a top-10-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide team in 2024.
