Even after guiding the No. 16 Penn State Nittany Lions to a 27-9 victory over the Temple Owls on Saturday, quarterback Rocco Becht was far from satisfied. Penn State fell into an early 3-0 hole following a sluggish first quarter filled with a missed field goal and a failed fourth-down attempt inside the 5-yard line. Yet, despite the rocky start, Becht showed why head coach Matt Campbell holds his leadership in such high regard.

Speaking on his weekly radio show, Campbell revealed a postgame moment that epitomized Becht's team-first mentality.

“Rocco wants the team to be successful,” Campbell said. “Saturday, even after the game, Rocco was apologizing to the offense because he didn’t feel like he started off the way he wanted to start.”

Becht certainly shook off that early rust in dominant fashion. After going 1-for-4 to open the game, the redshirt senior locked in, completing 12 consecutive passes and directing a crucial 10-play, 83-yard drive right before halftime. He capped the march with a 23-yard touchdown pass to tight end Benjamin Brahmer with just eighteen seconds left in the second quarter, sparking a run of 27 unanswered points for the Nittany Lions.

The Florida native finished the afternoon completing 21 of 27 passes for 268 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Becht spread the wealth across the field, connecting with Brahmer for a second touchdown in the fourth quarter and throwing a 16-yard scoring strike to wide receiver Chase Sowell in the third quarter. He also set up early field position with a 56-yard launch to wide receiver Koby Howard on the opening play from scrimmage.

While Becht felt the need to apologize to his teammates in the locker room, his poise under pressure secured Penn State's 2-0 start; his accountability and relentless drive prove the Nittany Lions have a true field general steering the ship.
