On Tuesday afternoon, the Boston Celtics held an introductory press conference for some of their new players this offseason, including Paul George. The Celtics famously acquired George from the Philadelphia 76ers in a shocking move that sent Jaylen Brown to the divisional rivals earlier this summer.

On Tuesday, George spoke on what he would say to Celtics fans who are still irate with the deal.

“Listen, I understand the circumstances. I understand how huge (Jaylen Brown) was not only for the organization but here in the city. So I didn't take it personal,” said George, per Zack Cox of the Boston Herald on X, formerly Twitter.

“To be honest, it's fair, but, you know, just one foot in front of the other. Hopefully, with how we start this year, they understand this is a new team and something that they can be proud of.”

Indeed, Brown became beloved in the city of Boston over the years, including winning the 2024 NBA Finals MVP for his performance in the Celtics' championship win over the Dallas Mavericks.

While the Celtics flamed out in the first round last year after blowing a 3-1 lead, many were still stunned that the team felt such pressure to trade Brown after his career year, particularly to the same 76ers team that had just beaten them in the playoffs.

“Hopefully, with how we start this year, they understand this is a new team and something that they can be proud of,” said George, per the Celtics on X.

The Celtics will begin that quest on October 20 with a road game against the Detroit Pistons to kick off the new season.
