The New England Patriots had virtually no chance against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, losing the Week 3 matchup 35-6. After falling 14-3 going into halftime, New England just couldn't do much of anything to surmount a comeback. Defensive tackle Milton Williams opened up about the loss with media members after the game.
Williams didn't hold back in his assessment of the loss. The 27-year-old claimed that losing a game like the Patriots did on Sunday is what happens when you don't play your best at the NFL level, according to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald.
“We got our a** kicked,” Williams said. “But that's the NFL. You come into it and don't put your best foot forward, that's what's gonna happen.”
It was the worst defensive outing for the Patriots so far this season. The 35 points allowed is the most the club has allowed so far this season. The defense was the strength of the team in the first two matchups, but things seemingly got out of hand in Week 3.
Offensively, things just are not clicking. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had yet another poor performance, finishing the game against the Jaguars with 199 passing yards and two interceptions while completing just 14 of his 25 attempts.
After another ugly showing, the Patriots will want to right the ship sooner rather than later. Especially considering the club is scheduled for a road game against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in Week 4. The only real good news for the franchise is that it's still early in the 2026-27 season, and there is time to make the right adjustments.
