The Kansas City Chiefs recently started out their 2026 season with a comfortable home win over the Denver Broncos. This game marked the return of Patrick Mahomes from an ACL injury, although both the defense and the running game led by Kenneth Walker III ended up stealing the show.

Recently, New England Patriots legend and current analyst Jason McCourty stopped by ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show to give a glowing review of the Chiefs' Week 1 performance.

“There's just no way you can watch that game on Monday night and not be all in on the Chiefs,” said McCourty, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter. “…Patrick Mahomes wasn't even close to what he's going to be like midway through the season and at the end of the season.”

Indeed, Mahomes looked quite rusty at times throughout this game, as was to be expected on the heels of his ACL injury, and the Chiefs still had no problem dominating the team that earned the number one seed in the AFC last year.

Meanwhile, questions about the Chiefs' defensive backfield, which lost both Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson to the Los Angeles Rams this past offseason, proved to be unwarranted, at least for this week, as rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane picked off the first pass attempt of the game from Broncos quarterback Bo Nix.

As Mahomes continues to work his way back into full form, Kansas City figures to only get scarier for opponents coming up on the schedule.

The Chiefs are next set to take the field on Sunday night for another primetime home game, this time against the Indianapolis Colts.
