A much-needed dose of optimism swept through the New England Patriots' camp on Tuesday as veteran cornerback Carlton Davis III returned to practice ahead of Thursday night's matchup against the Chicago Bears.
Davis, who has been dealing with a neck injury, participated in the team's walkthrough after missing six practices and two consecutive games. He was listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated injury report before being upgraded to limited participation the following day.

The 29-year-old has appeared in three games this season, recording 16 tackles. His neck issue previously affected his availability before Week 2's matchup versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. Davis subsequently played all 59 defensive snaps against the Buffalo Bills prior to missing additional time.
His return to practice is a step toward rejoining New England's secondary, although his availability for the upcoming contest remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, the Patriots continued to deal with injuries along their offensive line. Guards Alijah Vera-Tucker and Ben Brown remained out with hamstring and knee injuries, respectively. Both players missed last weekend's game against the New York Jets, with head coach Mike Vrabel indicating that they would likely not return for Thursday's game.
Defensive tackle Joshua Farmer also remained out of practice for a second consecutive day due to a personal matter.
Right tackle Morgan Moses was among the limited participants while managing a foot injury. He exited New England's game versus the Jets in the first quarter, with Caleb Lomu taking over after the opening nine offensive snaps. Matt Pryor and Walter Rouse also joined the offensive line rotation.

Quarterback Drake Maye (right shoulder), running back TreVeyon Henderson (ankle), offensive tackles Will Campbell (knee) and Marcus Bryant (ankle), linebackers Dre'Mont Jones (shoulder) and Christian Elliss (chest), safeties Kevin Byard III (chest) and Craig Woodson (shoulder), and kicker Andy Borregales (personal) were full participants.
Bryant's progress is also meaningful after New England opened his 21-day activation window following his designation to return from injured reserve.
The Patriots will continue preparing for their meeting with the Bears at Soldier Field, with Davis's resumption of practice among the salient developments on their latest injury report.
